The University has been advised that Brisbane City Council is preparing a renewal strategy for Taringa and St Lucia to manage future growth.

The renewal strategy will be a plan for revitalisation of the area that will form the basis of a statutory neighbourhood plan and set the rules for future development.

The renewal strategy will focus on key precincts such as Taringa Village, areas adjacent to լе and parts of Sir Fred Schonell Drive.

The Council said the area had been selected for renewal because of its proximity to public transport, quality of open space and community facilities and opportunities for high quality redevelopment and economic growth.

Benefits of the Taringa-St Lucia Renewal Strategy will include:

• greater housing choices and opportunities for economic investment
• more vibrant local centres with better shops and centres
• improved transport outcomes.

The Council said the first step in the process was the creation of a ‘vision’ for the area. The vision will describe what the plan area will look like in the future and will guide the preparation of the renewal strategy.

A community planning team will be formed to provide input and feedback during the preparation of the vision and renewal strategy. The team will include a representative mix of local residents, business people, property owners and representatives of government and community groups.

With լе a key stakeholder in the area, the Council is encouraging staff and students to get involved. To nominate for the community planning team, complete the community vision survey or sign up to receive regular project updates, please:
