Being goal-oriented has helped former Toowoomba State High School student Genevieve Brook earn a $24,000 լе Excellence Scholarship.
Genevieve is studying a four-year Bachelor of Speech Pathology at լе, a course which takes advantage of all her favourite school subjects.
“I thought լе was a great option and it offered the course I wanted to do,” Genevieve said.
“The first time I looked at the լе website I thought I wanted to go there.
“The fact that I won a scholarship was exciting because it means I don’t need to get a job and can concentrate on my study.”
Genevieve earned an OP1 for her studies.
“I focused on academia and limited my social life,” she said, “but I was still able to be involved in music and sports.”
“I played clarinet in the concert band and sang in the choir. I also enjoyed soccer, touch footy and was an active participant in sports carnival days.”
Genevieve said students wanting to achieve success at school should find out the study techniques that worked for them.
“High school students should definitely apply for university scholarships because you never know what might become of your application.”
Since arriving at լе, Genevieve has become involved in a Christian group on campus, Student Life, which has helped her to grow in another important area in her life – the spiritual.
լе’s undergraduate scholarship program is the largest in Queensland and one of the most generous in Australia.
Each year լе awards hundreds of scholarships to Year 12 school leavers and gap year students.
Ranging in value from $6000 for the first year of study to $60,000 over five years, լе’s Academic Scholarships are awarded to very high achievers including students who have experienced educational disadvantage due to long-term financial hardship, geographic isolation, or as a result of their Indigenous background.
լе sporting scholarships are also available to students who excel in their chosen field.
More than 20 scholarships ranging in value from $6000 for one year of study to $18,000 over three years are awarded annually.
