Students wanting to fast track their studies are encouraged to make the most of լе’s upcoming .
Running from November 29 to February 12, Summer Semester sees selected undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered in intensive mode, where most would normally take a standard semester to complete.
Academic Registrar Linda Bird said Summer Semester continued to be a popular choice for those seeking to accelerate or consolidate their studies.
More than 2,700 students have enrolled thus far – an 18% increase on 2009.
Participation is not restricted to լе students. Professionals, secondary students, those from other universities and people seeking tertiary study for personal interest or development are welcome to enrol providing they meet the course prerequisites.
With more than 230 Summer Semester subjects available from accounting to zoology, there’s something for everyone.
One of the many courses on offer – ANCH2050 Ancient World Study Tour – presents students with a unique opportunity to combine study and international travel to learn first-hand about the history of ancient civilisations.
Course coordinator Dr Amelia Brown said students would gain unique insights into classical civilisation from examining historical sites in Greece or Italy.
As part of the course, students will visit major archaeological sites and a range of important museums and collections.
“It also gives the students a chance to meet and learn from the archaeologists and historians who work there, and see history in context,” she said.
Dr Brown said part of the course’s appeal was the excitement of visiting another country and learning not only about its modern culture but also its ancient origins.
“Students will return from this course more knowledgeable about the roots of western civilisation,” she said.
Summer Semester enrolments are due by November 12. Applications for non-award and cross-institutional enrolment are due by October 31.
