The future of architectural design is being showcased at the annual 2010 School of Architecture Summer Exhibition held at (Õ¬Äе¼º½) St Lucia campus.

The exhibition features architectural design works based on theoretical and real-world projects across themes such as housing, sustainability, cultural infrastructure and education.

Students from all years of the Bachelor of Architectural Design and the Master of Architecture programs have contributed to the collection, which is exhibited on three levels of Õ¬Äе¼º½’s Zelman Cowen Building (Building 51).

Õ¬Äе¼º½ School of Architecture Head, Professor John Macarthur, said the students had worked hard for the event and that they were all looking forward to sharing their work with the public.

“Some of the exhibits that the public will see have been inspired by a recent competition for the Gold Coast Civic Cultural Centre and the students’ involvement in investigating the design of the city’s plan,” Professor Macarthur said.

“It is important that students have the opportunity to share their hard work with their peers, academic staff, family and friends.

“Professional architects will also be attending the exhibition to examine the students’ work and to meet and recruit up-and-coming talent."

Professor Macarthur said high school students considering architecture as a career were also encouraged to attend the exhibition so that they can learn more about what architecture students do as part of their program at the University.

“We have a strong studio culture in our School and the exhibition plays an important part of Õ¬Äе¼º½’s learning curriculum and providing students with professional training to prepare them for the future,” Professor Macarthur said.

The free exhibition is open on weekdays between 9am to 5pm until 9 December 2010.
