լе is gearing up for the start of the 2011 academic year, with orientation running from February 21-25.
The University will welcome 8000 new domestic undergraduates and 3175 new international students from all study levels.
New students are encouraged to take part in Orientation Week from February 21-25, to attend important information sessions, familiarise themselves with their campuses and participate in an array of social activities.
The free Market Days (Ipswich – Tuesday 22nd; St Lucia – Wednesday 23rd; Gatton – Thursday 24th) are popular events during O-Week.
Market Day is an opportunity for students to join one of the many լе Union affiliated clubs and societies; find out about the clubs, adventure and recreational activities offered by լе Sport, and to familiarise themselves with other services and facilities available to them. There will be plenty of freebies, fun activities, and inspiring performances.
լе Student Centre Manager Ken Aberdeen said the aim of Orientation Week was to assist new students with the transition to University life and to access the information and services available to them.
These included workshops on study skills, Understanding the Timetable sessions, Discovering the լе Library, Computer Help and Training sessions, Preparing for Success at University, Faculty welcomes and Academic Advising Sessions.
լе Student Services learning hub senior manager Janey Saunders said Orientation week for 2011 would offer a range of workshops run by Student Services that assist students in making the social and cultural adjustments involved with starting university.
“Many of these programs are designed to facilitate our students’ early engagement and sense of belonging at լе,” Ms Saunders said.
“Additionally, there will be a host of sessions to provide students with study tips that are vital for academic success in university programs. These include time management, essay writing and referencing skills, as well as dedicated workshops on understanding study expectations at university,” she said.
“During O-week, the idea is to give students a holistic transition into university and offer activities that will enhance the new students’ study experience,” she said.
Students can access the Orientation Event planner to gather details of information sessions related to their areas of study.
