Three of լе’s largest music ensembles will take to the stage this weekend at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s Concert Hall.
The three ensembles, including: the լе Symphony Orchestra, the լе Wind Symphony and the լе Chorale, will present Music with her Silver Sound at 2pm this Sunday.
Music with her Silver Sound is based on a scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, where musicians sing the line in a song, and subsequently ponder on its meaning.
This is where the concert showcases the intersection between writers’ relationships to music, and musicians’ inspirations from writers.
All the pieces, with the exception of one, have been inspired by literature in some form. There's Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. Fauré's Requiem is a setting of the liturgical mass for the dead.
Audience members will be able to experience the wondrous sound of three large ensembles and a program that includes Fauré's Requiem, Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, work from John Barnes Chance and Alfred Reed’s 'The Hounds of Spring’, inspired by a Victorian epic poem.
The performance will feature three directors: Warwick Potter, Patrick Pickett and Graeme Morton, who will each take to the stage with their ensemble.
լе Music’s Concerts Officer Thorin Kerr says the concert is destined to be a truly dramatic production.
“This is a particularly large production, involving all our large ensembles, two conductors, and even the QPAC pipe organ,” Mr Kerr said.
“We put on such a large production to be able to offer every student the chance to participate in a major concert performance.
“It’s a chance for our musicians, and the audience, to experience a wide range of music.”
About 250 student musicians from լе’s School of Music will perform at the event.
Music with her Silver Sound will be performed at 2-4pm Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Concert Hall, QPAC.
