University of Queensland students will learn about a plethora of work experience and graduate job opportunities at Õ¬Äе¼º½ Gatton Careers Fair on Thursday 20 March.

A conversation at last year’s Fair led student Jolene Monckton to work experience at the Australian Agricultural Company‘s Goonoo Farm and Feedlot in Central Queensland. The final-year agribusiness and applied science student said the work experience opened her eyes to diverse career opportunities that await her when she graduates this year.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Goonoo farm, living in Central Queensland with 50 other like-minded people who are passionate about agriculture,” Ms Monckton said.

“I got to experience various aspects of agriculture, including weed management and irrigation of chick peas, and I also assisted with the harvest of sorghum.”

“I encourage students to chat to as many employers as possible at the Careers Fair as you never know what doors it may open,” she said.

Australian Agricultural Company HR Consultant Zilona Rogers said the opportunity to network with students from Õ¬Äе¼º½ Gatton last year led to filling a graduate role and four industry placements.

“Attending the Õ¬Äе¼º½ Gatton Careers Fair in 2013 proved a worthwhile experience for AACo,” Ms Rogers said.

“One of our new graduates this year, Jasmine Boxsell, also came to us from Õ¬Äе¼º½ Gatton, and has signed on to spend two years with the company, travelling to a range of properties and learning about the business,” she said.

The Õ¬Äе¼º½ Gatton Careers Fair provides an opportunity for students to find out about a range of graduate and work placement opportunities.

Õ¬Äе¼º½ has designed a program to help students find employers seeking graduates.

Stallholders include veterinary schools, agriculture businesses, government departments and research facilities.
