The foundation degree of choice for Prime Ministers and many other political leaders will be available in Queensland for the first time next year.
Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron and former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser are some of the best-known politicians who took a (PPE).
The PPE is one of six new degree programs – spanning science, arts, criminology, law, politics, economics and exercise science – that will debut at Õ¬Äе¼º½ in 2017.
Õ¬Äе¼º½ Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Doune Macdonald said Õ¬Äе¼º½’s faculties of , and would jointly offer the new PPE degree.
“This elite academic program will offer broad and rigorous education in the foundations of politics, philosophy and economics,” Professor Macdonald said.
“Students will examine current and future global challenges, drawing from historical, political, social and economic knowledge bases.
“As a university that takes pride in innovation and delivering graduates who create change in the world, it is imperative that we continue to innovate and update the programs available to students.”
Õ¬Äе¼º½ joins a distinguished group of universities already offering the program, including Oxford University and Yale University.
Õ¬Äе¼º½ recently rocketed up the prestigious , arguably the most recognised ranking of the world’s more than 10,000 universities, to rank 55th globally and second in Australia. The news comes on the back of Õ¬Äе¼º½’s top-50 placings in .
The new Õ¬Äе¼º½ programs to be offered from 2017 are:
Bachelor of Biomedical Science (three years) – QTAC code: 731201
- Three-year program replaces the four-year BBiomedSc (Hons)
- Pathway to medicine or allied health programs
- Foundation in modern healthcare that focuses on the human body at the molecular, cellular and whole-body levels
- Covers extensive biomedical disciplines including physiology, anatomy, genetics, biochemistry, neuroscience and microbiology
- Practical laboratory and research skills
- Dual program option with the Bachelor of Science – complete two degrees in four years (BBiomedSc/BSc, QTAC code: 714112)

- Provides an intensive option for budding basic and clinical researchers

- Specialised four-year program replaces the Clinical Exercise Physiology major within the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours) degree
- Prepares students to work as accredited exercise physiologists and accredited exercise scientists
- Strong focus on clinical professional practice, over 500+ hours professional practicum experiences
- Students will have the opportunity to work with clients who have specific clinical conditions in both on-campus exercise clinics and external industry placements
