Õ¬Äе¼º½ has offered almost 10,000 new students a place for 2016, including 8000 who received the good news this morning.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) said cut-off scores in many areas had improved since last year.

“This is an indication of high demand from domestic undergraduate students for a place at a world Top 50 research-focused university,” she said.

“We are particularly pleased with the demand for our new maths and science programs.

“This is encouraging in terms of meeting national and state need for science, technology and maths graduates.”

The Mathematics degree had an OP 4 cut-off and Õ¬Äе¼º½ expects around 100 students to enrol.

New specialist programs in Equine Science, Wildlife Science, Veterinary Technology and Sustainable Agriculture also had a strong response.

“Students of these Gatton-based programs will have fantastic opportunities to benefit from Õ¬Äе¼º½’s agriculture research which ranks among the world’s very best,” Professor Wright said.

“Another new degree which is proving popular is Advanced Finance and Economics. This had an OP 2 cut-off.

“Among existing programs, the generalist degrees in Arts and Science are increasingly popular.

“We congratulate all our new students and preparations are well under way to welcome them at Orientation Week, starting on 22 February.

“We look forward to their contributions as students and graduates as they create change in areas of critical state, national and global importance.”
