A love of adventure and an enthusiasm for new challenges has led to a diverse career and an honorary doctorate for University of Queensland graduate and General Electric executive Mark Hutchinson.
Mr Hutchinson completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Õ¬Äе¼º½ in 1986, before embarking on an extensive global career.
He currently serves as an executive of GE, an American multinational conglomerate corporation, listed as the fourth-largest in the world by Forbes magazine.
His success has been recognised this week with an Honorary Doctorate of Business from Õ¬Äе¼º½.
Õ¬Äе¼º½ Vice-Chancellor and President said Mr Hutchinson’s impressive achievements made him an excellent candidate for the honour.
“Mr Hutchinson is a globally influential corporate executive who has held significant positions in organisations including Barclays Bank and, most recently, General Electric,” he said.
“Since joining GE in the mid-1990s, Mr Hutchinson has been involved in projects across North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim.
“This year, he was picked to lead GE’s US$17 billon integration with French multinational company Alstom.
“Mr Hutchinson’s success is a fantastic example of what our Õ¬Äе¼º½ graduates can go on to achieve.
“More than 220,000 students have graduated from Õ¬Äе¼º½ over the years, and our graduates live and work in more than 160 countries, demonstrating the global advantage a Õ¬Äе¼º½ education provides.”
