Õ¬Äе¼º½ is among the world’s 50 best universities, according to a new ranking published this week.

Õ¬Äе¼º½ ranked 47th globally, in the published by .

The organisation has been ranking higher education institutions in the United States for three decades, but this is the first time it has evaluated institutions worldwide.

“This is a very strong result for Õ¬Äе¼º½, and will help advance recognition of top Australian universities in key international markets where a new American-based ranking will be watched closely,” said the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Peter Høj.

“Õ¬Äе¼º½’s staff can be proud that their passionate dedication to quality has positioned our University so prominently among the world’s best.”   

Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of California Berkeley, Stanford University and the University of Oxford took the top five positions on the Best Global Universities list.

The new survey focuses on institutions’ overall research, and weighs universities’ global and regional reputation, research performance using publishing indicators, and data on academic staff and higher-degree graduates.

The overall rankings include 500 universities in 49 countries, which also are assessed in four regions – Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Latin America.

Õ¬Äе¼º½ has sustained strong results in all of the key global higher education rankings tables this year:

- QS World University Rankings (43rd globally)

- National Taiwan University Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities (56th)

- Academic Ranking of World Universities (85th, or 58th modified) and

- Times Higher Education World University Rankings (65th)  

Õ¬Äе¼º½ also leads Australia and is one of the strongest Asia-Pacific institutions in the .
