լе (լе) and industry partners recently awarded scholarships developed to attract high achieving young people into the ICT industry in Australia.

Ten students were awarded ICT Enabling Scholarships worth $3000 each, which are jointly funded by SAP, SGI, GBST, Extrados and լе’s .

In addition to financial support, the scholarships provide students with valuable work experience opportunities.

Head of the School of ITEE, Professor Paul Strooper said the ICT Enabling Scholarship initiative began between լе and industry in 2007 as a means to encourage and enable school-leavers to undertake ICT-related programs at լе.

“Australia is currently experiencing a shortage of professional ICT graduates, and industry organisations have joined with լе to establish these scholarships as a means to attract the best and brightest students into ICT programs,” Professor Strooper said.

Since the establishment of the scholarships in 2007, a growing number of students have entered լе’s ICT programs.

Chief Executive Officer of GBST’s Broker Services Division, Denis Orrock said the company had actively supported լе’s ICT Enabling Scholarships since 2010.

“Through our Brisbane-based development centre we recognised the need to better position GBST as an employer of choice for Queensland based ICT students,” Mr Orrock said.

“GBST provide scholarship recipients with an offer of part-time employment with GBST and the opportunity to work on interesting and varied projects with real commercial outcomes within the financial services domain.”

“Recently a number of լе students who were undertaking part-time work with GBST, actively contributed to the successful launch of a new Business Intelligence reporting tool that has been purchased by domestic and international financial institutions.

“GBST has had a long association with լе through our chairman Dr John Puttick and we look forward to continuing this relationship and the scholarship program into the future.”
