Law professionals will get the opportunity to share their expertise and engage with some of the world’s leading legal academics at two law conferences being hosted by լе’s TC Beirne School of Law this month.

The (21-22 July) explores the increasingly common and often complex intersection between statutory and common law methods for implementing public and private law.

Titled, Private and Public Law - Intersections in Law and Method, the conference will lead participants through an examination of the ways in which private law involving relationships between individuals is having a greater impact on laws that affect the wider public.

“Anyone who is interested in gaining a greater understanding of the interrelations of private law, its future and the impact on people’s everyday lives will find this event extremely valuable,” conference host and Head of the Law School, Professor Ross Grantham, said.

Among the topics to be addressed are: issues in corporate and commercial law; issues in the law of charities; torts and contract; and human rights and public law.

at the event include Associate Professor Mathew Harding and Professor Andrew Robertson, both of the University of Melbourne; Professor Steve Hedley of the University of Cork; and Professor William Lucy of the University of Manchester.

Natural Law and Legal Obligation is the theme for the taking place at լе’s St Lucia campus between 29 and 31 July.

The conference offers a forum for members of the Society and others to discuss research papers in a number of different fields of legal philosophy.

Keynote speakers include Michael Detmold of the University of Adelaide, Kenneth Einar Himma of Seattle Pacific University, Fred D Miller from Bowling Green State University, and Mark C Murphy of Georgetown University.

The event will include a book symposium devoted to the recent publication by Tony Connolly of the Australian National University, entitled Cultural Difference on Trial: The Nature and Limits of Judicial Understanding.

The book’s commentators will be Margaret Davies of Flinders University, Gary Edmond of the University of New South Wales and Katie Glaskin of the University of Western Australia.
