A host of new degrees being offered at (Õ¬Äе¼º½) in 2011 will give Õ¬Äе¼º½ students a competitive edge.
The new programs being offered across arts, management, energy studies, law, health, social science and computing are designed to meet the needs of the changing work environment and to provide graduates more flexibility in their career direction.
Õ¬Äе¼º½â€™s Faculty of Arts is offering two new programs - a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Executive) and a Diploma in Arts – that are both open to entry to graduates from any discipline.
Graduate Diploma in Arts (Executive)
The Graduate Diploma in Arts (Executive) provides specific skills and knowledge related to professional positions in management and administration in the public, not-for-profit, and the private sectors. It provides an alternative ‘fourth’ year of study, and is thought will have wide appeal to those seeking to undertake further coursework study.
The program consists of existing postgraduate courses, in the areas of critical reasoning, professional communication, intercultural communication, business and professional ethics, strategic management, project management, the legal system and accounting.
Diploma in Arts
The new Diploma in Arts enables graduates to acquire greater specialisation in a chosen field, update their skills or follow a study area they are passionate about. Students have the option of choosing to study either a single major or two minors within the program.
This new program, which will be available to bachelors degree graduates, is distinguished from the Graduate Diploma in Arts in that it is comprised of undergraduate courses.
Subject to satisfactory performance, the Diploma provides an opportunity to progress to postgraduate coursework study (as well as honours and further higher degree research).
Master of Global Management
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law has introduced a Master of Global Management to meet the demands of the current global job market for graduates with global awareness and expertise. The program will be offered in collaboration with other overseas institutions. The arrangement offers students an opportunity to complete two degrees – one at Õ¬Äе¼º½ and another overseas.
Master of Energy Studies
The Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology will introduce the Master of Energy Studies from Semester 1 in 2011. The program will be offered in the fields of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Management (CM).
The Universities Low Emission Coal Consortium, represented by Õ¬Äе¼º½, the University of Western Australia, the University of Newcastle and Monash University, is proposing to establish the International Centre for Energy Studies (ICES). The ICES has developed the integrated Master of Energy Studies program to prepare professionals to strategically address challenges posed by a carbon-constrained economy.
Students are encouraged to partner with industry, financial service providers, regulatory agencies, Research and Development centres of excellence and companies to work in the field. Suitable collaborating units and providers within Õ¬Äе¼º½, the University of Newcastle, University of Western Australia and Monash University are being identified.
Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry)
A Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) program has been designed for non-law graduates by Õ¬Äе¼º½â€™s Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. It provides graduate students with the opportunity to build on previous study experiences while satisfying the academic requirements for admission to the legal profession in Queensland and throughout Australia. Graduates from any discipline may apply to enter the program, which can be completed in 3 years, compared to 4 years for students entering the LLB program. International students are expected to be very attracted to the Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry).
Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Echocardiography
The Faculty of Health Sciences is introducing the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Echocardiography. An echocardiography machine uses sound waves to provide a moving picture of the heart.
The new graduate certificate is being offered in response to the increased role of echocardiography in critical care medicine, and to provide training in the theoretical and practical aspects of echocardiography, primarily focused on intensive care. On completion students will be able to perform and interpret a comprehensive echocardiogram and develop an enhanced understanding of the echocardiographic evaluation of the critically ill.
