լе was again highly-ranked in the third independent ranking of world universities released in the past month.

լе was one of only five Australian universities (and the only Queensland university) in the top 100 in the Times Higher Education’s 2010-2011 World University Rankings released today.

Editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Ann Mroz, said being ranked 81 in the world top 200 was “an impressive achievement”.

“The top 200 universities in the world represent only a tiny fraction of world higher education and any institution that makes it into this table is truly world class,” she said.

UNESCO recognises more than 9000 universities in the world, so the ranking places լе among the top one percent of international universities.

լе Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Max Lu said լе had now been rated one of the world’s leading universities by three independent rankings with different methodologies.

These were the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings and the THE World University Rankings.

“People can be confident that լе’s credentials are highly respected internationally as being among the very best,” he said.

“The THE methodology is new and has produced different rankings from last year. It will be subjected to close examination and commentary, but we think it’s robust — independent rankings will continue to attract interest and respect."

The Times Higher Education has ended its partnership with former data supplier, QS. QS released its own World University rankings last week, rating լе as 43rd in the world.

The Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities gave լе an Asia-Pacific universities ranking of 11. լе improved six places in the world ranking to 108.
