լе is hosting the first Careers and Graduate Employment Professional Work Experience Showcase on August 4 from 10am to 1pm at the Innes Room, լе Union, St Lucia campus.
լе Student Services Events Coordinator Susannah Day said the Expo focused entirely on professional work experience programs — including vacation work, internships, work experience, and scholarships.
“Work experience is a great opportunity for students and employers to build positive relationships,” she said.
“For students, it’s a dedicated opportunity to speak to real employers while employers are exposed to a range of potential future employees.”
Careers Adviser, Brigitte White said work experience opportunities were typically available to students in their second or penultimate (second-last) year of study.
Students could listen to representatives from leading organisations speak about work experience opportunities available and answer a range of questions including:
· What qualities do the employers look for students to demonstrate in their application to undertake internships/work experience?
· How should students apply for internships? Are companies happy to receive direct contact from students seeking opportunities, or should students only apply to advertised positions?
· How are work experience opportunities structured?
· How is the success of the placement assessed?
Participating organisations include AIESEC, Australian Internships, BDO, Bechtel, BP Australia, Brisbane City Council, CPA Australia, Department of Environment and Resource Management, Exxon Mobil, Graduate Opportunities, McGrathNicol, Queensland Treasury, Rio Tinto, and Unigrad.
